August 2020 Update from Haiti
Eucharistic celebrations
The national episcopal conference gave the green light for open celebrations with public participation and with health restrictions specified in a letter made public. The vast majority of these measures cannot be fully carried out here at the mission. To control proximity, we have increased Mass times so there are fewer people at Masses.
Small communities
The vast majority of the small communities formed since we arrived never stopped their weekly meetings, not even due to the pandemic. We have managed to channel charitable aid through the leaders of these small communities (those who appear in the photos with their animals are leaders of the small communities). They in turn come to the cenacle to receive the aid and then they distribute it to the people in need according to their own criteria. Once a month all the leaders gather for training and feedback.
The parish school
The current Haitian government wanted to open schools. We have also kept pace according to our abilities. We have reduced class hours with 5 minutes of recess. We have projected to end the school year on October 23rd to restart for another school year in November.
Our best regards,
